A winter afternoon

 Today, a quiet, gray and cold day I hung a new birdfeeder on my deck. I wanted a new location for feeding and the location would hopefully attract them. I hadn't been living in my livingroom area for some time. I find my life getting smaller each day. The kitchen, bedroom and bathroom are about all a single woman needs if the kitchen area fits a comfy recliner.  The birdfeeder had been a christmas gift from my neighbor. This Christmas had been lonely and I found myself wanting to visit with my sister who passed away eight years earlier. If we want hard enough, ask nice enough, are lonesome enough, couldn't it happen? Well I guess I'm old enough to know such things can't exist. We destroy ourselves well enough without the sighting of ghosts. Hanging the feeder was a stretch with raised arms and up on toes. The hook for the feeder, the gray sky, the maple trees bare branches. Then across the sky came the familiar formation of Canadian geese. Never do they seem to be the ...
